Practice Overview
We are a multi-doctor, busy, progressive, long-time AAHA accredited small animal primary care hospital that will keep you engaged and inspired every day. We love to laugh, tell jokes, be silly, and support each other. We are committed to providing Mentorship both in and out of the hospital. How We Support Each Other
Veterinary Assistant I
- Learn to use our veterinary software to take pet history and enter medical records
- Learn vaccination and preventative protocols
- Safely restrain for the veterinarian during examinations
- Keep the rooms clean and sanitized between each patient
- Open communication with the veterinarians and other team members
- Ability to safely apply a muzzle or use of a cag bag whenever needed
- Fill medications for pets, and develop a basic working knowledge about medications
- Restrain for treatments such as venipuncture, catheter placement, vaccination administration
- Take vitals such as weight, temperature, pulse and heart rates
- Perform nail trims and anal gland expressions
- Be an extra set of eyes as an advocate for the pet, and relay that information to the doctor or appropriate staff member
Veterinary Assistant II
- Draw blood via jugular, cephalic, and saphenous veins
- Perform IV catheterization and set up fluids for administration
- Perform IV, SQ, and IM injections
- Become familiar with injectable, oral, and topical medications
- Recognize if a patient is scared, aggressive, or feral
- Set up for surgical procedures
- Clean up after every surgery and procedure
- Scrub all instruments and package for autoclaving
- Set up and take radiographs, become knowledgeable of different positions and techniques
- Communicate with the RVT and the doctor regarding patient care
- Take complete history from drop off and urgent care appointments
- Take meticulous notes in the electronic medical record in a timely manner
How You Support Us
- Previous animal experience
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Strong basic Excel, Word, typing, internet and email skills
- Ability to stand and walk for most of your shift. Must be able to lift and carry 40 pounds without assistance
- Must be a self-starter, presentable, and on time for your shifts
- Be able to start and finish projects in a timely manner, and keep accurate records in the electronic medical record system
- Passionate about animal welfare, client support, and community engagement
- Willingness to become Fear Free Certified
